Suvereto is a municipality of 2.897 inhabitants in the province of Livorno. It belongs to the valley of Cornia, where the important Val-di-Cornia-Suvereto-d.o.c. wines are made, and is part of the City of Wine Association. Its toponym dates back to 973 and derives from the Latin "suber" (cork); Suvereto thus meaning cork woods.
The typically scattered colonial houses remind of the ancient organization of farming and characterize both the settlings along the Cornia river and those who mark the boundaries of Suvereto on the hill side. |
